25-26 Public Notice: Request for Public Comment on Ed-Flex Waiver Application

Indian Creek is submitting an application to the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE) for an Ed-Flex Waiver #2, which allows for increased flexibility in meeting paraprofessional (assistant) requirements. This waiver provides school districts like ours with the opportunity to better meet staffing needs while continuing to prioritize student learning and achievement.
Purpose of the Waiver:
Ed-Flex Waiver #2 will enable us to hire qualified individuals as instructional assistants even if they have not yet met all federal paraprofessional certification requirements—provided they are receiving appropriate training and are closely supervised by certified staff. This flexibility is essential to help us address staffing shortages and ensure continued classroom support for students.
Anticipated Impact:
We anticipate that this waiver will lead to:
- Improved student access to instructional support in classrooms
- Greater consistency in staffing and reduced disruption to student learning
- Expanded opportunities to recruit and retain high-quality support staff from our own community

How Comments Will Be Used:
All comments received will be reviewed and submitted as part of our application to the IDOE. Anyone in the public may also review submitted comments upon request by emailing Eric Long at elong@nhj.k12.in.us.
