WHAT IS RED RIBBON WEEK? It is an ideal way for people and communities to unite and take a visible stand against drugs. Show your personal commitment to a drug-free lifestyle through the symbol of the Red Ribbon, October 23 to 31.
WHY? Children of parents who talk to their teens regularly about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t; yet, only a quarter of teens report having these conversations. Empower Johnson County, a local youth substance use prevention coalition, is providing information and support to parents, students, and educators regarding the risks of substance abuse.
WHO? Empower Johnson County and National Family Partnership are sponsoring the National Red Ribbon Week® efforts at your student’s school. We are helping citizens across the country come together to keep children, families and communities safe, healthy and drug-free.
HOW? Materials and funding have been provided to your student’s school enabling them
to participate in Red Ribbon Week®.
You too can take part in the campaign by visiting our website http://redribbon.org/ or follow @EmpowerJohnsonCounty on Facebook for more information regarding talking to your child about youth substance use prevention.
