The recently created Indian Creek chapter of Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) kicked off their efforts by supporting our troops when they miss their families the most. Started by Casey Merrill (ICHS), the chapter at Indian Creek High School is part of the national CTE Organization and affiliated with the IN FCCLA and National FCCLA organizations. It is open to anyone taking Family and Consumer Sciences courses.
The November 3 event at Franklin Community High School provided an opportunity for the IC chapter to participate in a service event district meeting with fellow FCCLA district chapters from Franklin, Greenfield, New Palestine, Carmel, and Center Grove.
Together the FCCLA members created 750 stockings that will be packed with gifts for troops stationed throughout the world. District advisors Barb Torrey, Franklin Community High School, and Michelle Overman, Greenfield High School, organized this event for the district FCCLA chapters.
The goal of this project is to provide some care and comfort from home during the holiday season to our troops stationed throughout the world . In the past, the stockings have been delivered to our troops serving in some very remote areas. Barb Torrey, Franklin Community FCCLA district adviser knows the program’s impact on those receiving these special gifts because she receives countless thank you letters and emails from all over the world.
