United Sound Is Booming At Indian Creek

United Sound is a collaboration between special education music students and high school students. Teachers Amy Heavilin, Sharon Hogue, and Scott Wilkerson collaborate to offer a special education music class during the school day and United Sound is an extension of that. United Sound allows these students, both the student mentors and the special education students, to work with other bands to perform. This year they were able to perform with Michigan State at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Last year, Indian Creek was the first high school band in Indiana to start a chapter of United Sound. United Sound is currently working with the Franklin College Band Program to continue the program. This will allow our students who are in INSPIRE  to continue playing once they leave Indian Creek. INSPIRE is a program where students who have worked toward a certificate of completion throughout high school can move on to working in and receiving support in a college atmosphere.

Huge thanks to the Indian Creek Staff for their help with this opportunity. Also, a thank you to the NHJ Foundation for the grant to have instruments put in playing condition for the United Sound new musicians!
