IC Innovation Studio Open and Fostering Increased STEM Learning

Students at Indian Creek Elementary and Intermediate Schools enjoy hands-on experiential learning through the IC Innovation Studio, a dedicated STEM classroom in partnership with Purdue IN-MaC and Endress+Hauser, Inc.
Locally, Purdue IN-MaC partnered with area manufacturing company, Endress+Hauser, to award a micro-grant to Indian Creek Schools to purchase additional STEM equipment and programming. Research shows that exposing students to STEM activities at an early age helps develop a variety of skill sets, including creativity, increased science and mathematics comprehension, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
"The new and improved space allows teachers and their students to gain hands-on STEM experience that complements the learning received in the classroom," said Jessi Ellis, Indian Creek Schools STEM Teacher. "Students have designed and printed a Compass Rose after discussing map skills, used block coding to program Sphero bots, and learned how robots help in industries such as manufacturing and healthcare."
IC Purdue IN-MaC Studio Equipment includes:
- Sindoh 3D printers
- Sphero Indi bots - color coding bots
- Sphero Bolt bots - block coding bots
- Sphero Little bits - STEAM circuit sets
- MIcrobit - codable circut boards
- Dobot Magician Lite - robot arms
